The MedStar Research Institute is currently recruiting applicants for its fiscal year 2006 intramural funding program.  The emphasis of the intramural funding program is to encourage new research initiatives and studies by new investigators.

Grants are awarded for a one-year term that will begin on July 1, 2005 and end June 30, 2006.  Awards are based on the recommendations of the MRI Research Committee and approval of those recommendations by the MRI Board of Directors.

Proposals are to be submitted to the MRI Office of  Administrative Research Services by 4:00 pm on Friday, April 15, 2005.  In order to allow sufficient time for project review and budget recommendations, it is imperative that we receive all proposals by this date.

The application may be submitted electronically through the website. However, the signed original copy of the application form and proposal, along with the supporting material must be submitted to the Office of Administrative Research Services.

Funding for FY 2005 grants will automatically end June 30, 2005.  Fiscal Year 2006 applications that build upon a funded FY 2005 project must include a progress report on the FY 2005 funded project. FY 2006 applications submitted without a progress report for the FY 2005 funded study will not be accepted.

MedStar Research Institute’s policy prohibits the use of intramural funds for PI salary; Fellow’s salary; major equipment; computers; travel; or space and occupancy charges.

These funds can be used for supplies, lab tests, salary for staff directly involved in the study (e.g., study coordinators, lab techs, etc.), consultant fees, lab animals, etc.

If you require assistance, have questions, or need additional information, please contact Deborah Anzalone in the Office of Administrative Research Services at 410-554-4508.   If you require specific information about animal research, please contact Stephan Rosario at 202-877-6696.
